Recreation Leader I
(Playground Program )
Salary: $8.50 Per Hour
The Position
Under direction, supervises and monitors Parks and/or
gymnasium facilities, and may supervise, lead and direct youths
and/or
adults in a wide variety of recreational activities.
Important and Essential Duties
Essential duties include, but
are not limited to, the following:
- Supervises facilities and is department's on site representative
- performs
constant inspections of the facilities for safety and risk
management items
- opens and closes facilities, and turns field
lights on and off for scheduled groups
- sets up and tears down
chairs and tables, and does light maintenance as needed
- assists
in program publicity through flyer, newsletters, signs and
posters; keeps records, and prepares related reports
such as attendance,
accident,
and maintenance requests
- works special events and assists in a
wide variety of activity for children and adults.
Qualifications Guidelines
- High school graduation or its equivalent
- Paid or verifiable
volunteer experience working with people is required
- Ability
to speak Spanish is desirable.
Special Requirement
Must have valid California Class C Driver's License.
Recreation Leader II
(Playground Program)
Salary: $9.08 - $10.16 Per Hour
The Position
Under direction, plans, supervises, leads and directs
youths and/or adults in a wide variety of recreational activities;
provides
quality after-school supervision with an emphasis on meeting
the creative and recreational needs of children in the community.
Important and Essential Duties
Essential duties include, but
are not limited to, the following:
- Plans, develops, conducts, supervises and manages a wide
variety of activities for children and adults including
sports, arts and crafts, contests, tournaments,
games, drama, music, and special events.
- Organizes, conducts, and supervises
free play and team activities for adults and children; organizes,
officiates, and instructs all sport activities,
teaches
fundamentals of play and sportsmanship in recreational activities.
- Assists
in program publicity through use of flyers, newsletters,
signs, and posters; keeps records and prepares related reports.
- Adheres
to City and departmental policies and procedures
- Performs
related duties as required.
Qualifications Guidelines
- Graduation from high school or its equivalent
- One year paid
or two-year verifiable volunteer recreation experience is
required
- Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable
- Must possess
basic skills, and knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment
used in maintaining an effective recreational
program.
- Ability to organize, conduct, assign, and supervise
recreational activities, as well as establish and maintain
effective
working relationships with
staff members, volunteers and the general public is required.
Special Requirements
- Must have a valid Class 3 California Driver's License at
time of appointment.
- Must have own transportation to travel
within City limits.
Physical Requirements (For Recreation Leader I & II)
Essential duties require the following physical abilities
and environmental conditions:
- Ability to sit, stand,
walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, twist, climb
- Lift
files from desk tops and drawers
- Tolerate exposure to vibration,
pitch, and glare from computer.
Work Schedule
- Part-time, 20 - 25 hours per week.
- Flexible schedule; may
be required to work weekends.
Part-time and seasonal employees are paid salaries only, with
no benefits.
